1. Who We Are

Advanced English Dictionary is developed and operated by Lijia Lab (lijialab.com). If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at the address listed in Section 8.

2. What Data We Collect

The extension collects only the minimum data necessary to provide dictionary lookup functionality.

3. How We Use the Data

• Dictionary lookups: The word you select or type is sent to the dictionary API server to retrieve its definition, pronunciation, and example sentences. The word is used solely to answer your query.
• Recent-search history: Stored locally on your device to show you your last 10 lookups inside the extension popup. This data never leaves your browser except as part of Chrome's own sync mechanism if you have sync enabled.
• Settings: Synced via Chrome's built-in sync service so your API and website URL preferences are consistent across devices. Google's privacy policy governs Chrome sync data.

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for advertising or marketing purposes.

The only external services involved are:

• Dictionary API server (default: https://www.lijialab.com) — receives the word you look up and returns the definition. You can change this URL in the extension's Options page to point to your own self-hosted server.
• Google Chrome Sync — used to persist your settings. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Data Security

All communication between the extension and the dictionary API server is made over HTTPS. Local data is stored using Chrome's extension storage API, which is scoped to the extension and not accessible by websites or other extensions.

6. Your Rights and Controls

• Clear search history: You can clear recent searches at any time from within the extension popup.
• Reset settings: You can restore default settings from the extension's Options page.
• Remove all data: Uninstalling the extension permanently removes all locally stored data (chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync data scoped to this extension).
• Self-hosting: You may configure the extension to use your own private API server, so no lookup data leaves your own infrastructure.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. For significant changes, we will endeavour to provide a more prominent notice.
